What is Alt Text?

Alt text, also known as alt descriptions, is a text description of an image. It improves accessibility for visual impairment and helps search engines index your images.

Usually, alt text is used on websites with HTML attributes. For example alt=”Description of the image”. Most CMSs let you add it in image settings.

Also, Instagram lets you add alt descriptions to your photos. When posting an image, there is [“Aa” Add Alt Text] on the bottom right corner. You can add your alt text there.

Keep the following points in mind when writing alt descriptions:

• it should be concise and accurate;
• it should describe the image, not the surrounding context;
• it should not include keywords or spammy words.
