What is SSL?

Definition and meaning of SSL:

Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is a security technology that encrypts data between a user and a server – for example, a website server or email server. It protects data from unauthorized access, tampering, spoofing, stealing, and other malicious activities.

SSL is an essential tool for protecting your data and the data of your customers. SSL helps build trust with Google Search and your customers. Seeing that you take security seriously will give them confidence your site is safe. Plus, you will rank higher than a website without an SSL.

SSL is often used interchangeably with TLS (Transport Layer Security), another encryption method.
