What is IP Address?
Definition and meaning of IP Address:
Internet Protocol address (or IP address) is a number that identifies the device on a network. It’s like a postal code for computers that can tell you where your computer is located and which networks it can connect to.
IP addresses are usually written as four numbers separated by periods (such as 111.0.0.1). Every device connected to the Internet must have an IP address.
Types of IP addresses
- Public IP address can be accessed by anyone on the Internet
- Private IP address is only accessible within a closed network.
Most home networks use private IP addresses, which means that the devices on that network can only communicate with each other and not with devices on the Internet. Those devices need to use a public IP address to access the Internet.
